I'll be taking a closer look at what kind of speeds you can expect from a variety of today's top graphics cards on Friday when the game comes out, but right now I thought I'd put through its paces to see what it's made of. Aloy is sent away from the sheltered yet dangerous world she's thrived in despite being an outcast, and finds a massive world full of more danger and adventure than most people now inhabiting the world could possibly imagine. However, Sony seems to be testing the waters a bit after seeing how many popular Xbox titles have done well on PC without taking away from the Xbox market, and it's exciting to be able to play this game on my PC instead of out on the couch. If you'd have asked me six months ago if I thought this incredibly popular PS4 game would ever come to PC, I'd likely have laughed and said no. The draw distance goes so much further on PC, which is exactly what you want when there's so much to drink in and admire. Alas, moving up to Favour Quality saw that number fall to an average of 42fps, but hey, that's still faster than what you'll get on PS4. RECOMMENDED:• If you want to be a super stealthy ranged fighter with a plan for everything, you can easily do that with the right outfit and modifications and skill tree unlocks. Coupled with some cave areas where the actual world and the background don't quite line up, leading to places you think you can jump to until an invisible wall stops you, it's easy to quickly become frustrated by how much work goes into holding your hand in many puzzles and landscapes. Horizon Zero Dawn was already a stunning-looking game on PS4, but its PC port really cranks everything up to eleven, wringing every last detail from it to create one of the most jaw-dropping PC games of 2020. It's not grindy or repetitive, and mechanically all of the things you need to fight and survive feel like they need to be there. As such, I wouldn't get too disappointed if you find Ultimate is a little bit beyond the reach of your PC. You should absolutely buy this game if you're a fan of open-world adventures with lots of combat. Indeed, the jump between Quality and Ultimate is much smaller than the jump from the Original PS4-level graphics to Quality in my eyes, so the fact a GTX 1060 can comfortably handle the latter is already a big win. Effectively, the same setup I had when I tested Death Stranding. Being able to climb anything, or seek your own path, would have made so much of this game feel even bigger, and it's a shame so much work is done to limit your movement in exchange for pre-lit paths.
